What law enforcement positions are available with the Saline County Sheriff's Office?

The entry-level positions are Patrol Officer, Records Clerk, Corrections Officer and Booking Clerk.

What are the qualifications for the entry-level positions?

The positions require a high school diploma or the equivalent, minimum age of 19.5, no felony or domestic violence convictions, and all misdemeanors will be reviewed.

What additional qualifications are desirable?

A steady employment history is desirable. Of course, for college students this may consist of part-time and/or summer jobs. Formal training in criminal justice administration or experience as a Reserve Officer is beneficial.

What is the selection process?

To ensure that the best candidates are hired for the positions, the selection process is fairly extensive. An applicant may be screened out at any step. The steps are:

  1. Pre-employment records check.
  2. An entry-level police/corrections or clerical test.
  3. Board interview.
  4. An interview with the Sheriff.
  5. Professional Standards background check.
  6. Additional written testing, including psychological screening.
  7. A physical examination, including a drug screen.

Applicants can be screened out at any step of the selection process.
